Encouragement Can Do the Trick

After a couple of less than stellar starts out of our rotation is disheartening from where we sit.  Especially after a great first couple of starts. But you know what I forget? (and maybe you do too) They’re still young. We as far as the major league level goes anyway. Matt Harrison is 26, Derek Holland 25.  It’s more than encouragement actually. Encouragement in front of a video screen with pitching coach  Mike Maddox. It may not be something simple, but my guess is, it’s something obvious. Who knows, maybe Mike’s brother Greg will pitch in. He didn’t suck. And all of those times I repeated the mantra “it’s early still”? Well that is a very good thing right now.

After losing 2 of 3 at home to Tampa Bay (now owners of the best record in baseball) and doing the same in Toronto and a pretty gnarly streak of games, giving some of the older legs days off on artificial turf was a good thing. Also another time that the mantra works. With Martin out in Round Rock, our options are fewer now and I bet the big board is developing some outside options. The minds in the front office are strong and I do live by the words- trust in Nolan and J.D.

Time to batten down the hatches, there is a lot of baseball to be played before our next off day. It’s not until two weeks from yesterday.

In the meantime, we look at our accomplishments. A tidy little lead in the AL West, AL Player of the Month Josh Hamilton and AL Rookie Pitcher of the month Yu Darvish, after just the first month of play. Mitch Moreland is getting a handle on it at the plate and we settle into the Mistake by the Lake with a healthier Hamilton and Beltre.

Let’s play ball.
