More of the Same…or Was It?

Thanks to a shaky outing by Joe Nathan last night, the game was much closer than it should have been. That’s because Derek Holland had his best outing of the year last night. Dutch allowed only four hits to the weak Mariner lineup. It was one down five to go in getting our pitching staff all the way back. That was the good news.

The bad news was that the offense appeared to be struggling as much as they did before the break. Thanks to a two-run bomb from Adrian Beltre, we managed to do just enough. Mike
Napoli bruised a quad in a mini-collision at home plate, trying to score. He had walked which was his high point of the night. He swung and missed on a strike three earlier and it appeared he didn’t even see the ball.

So the rumor mill continues to swirl and while there had been so much chatter about Grienke and Hamels, the Justin Upton talks seem to be picking up steam. Because the offense has been so bad, I am now seeing that as more of a possibility than getting a pitcher. I did just read that the Phillies are cueing up a big offer for Hamels and a story just a bit ago that the Brewers may do the same with Grienke.

Only 17 days and counting to the trade deadline.
